Type of tennis balls

HBuying tennis balls seems easy, until you see our wide range of tennis balls in front of you. In fact, there are many different brands and types of tennis balls. Therefore, we regularly get the question, "What are the best tennis balls?". To make a choice for tennis balls easier, on this page we give an overview of the types of balls that belong to our range. Here we distinguish between:

Gas-filled tennis balls

gas-filled tennis ball is a tennis ball that is filled with gas. These tennis balls are generally the most popular and well-known among tennis players. The balls are packaged in a tin that is itself filled with gas and thus pressurized. This is done so that the ball cannot lose gas before use. When the tin is opened, the gas is released and thus the pressure within the tube also drops. Gas-filled tennis balls are often used at tournaments and during recreational play.

The reason this gas-filled ball is so popular is because a gas-filled ball is the least prone to injury and is perceived as most comfortable by tennis players. Due to the hardness and bounce of the ball, the gas-filled tennis ball is suitable for tennis players with experience and less suitable for beginning tennis players

Pressureless tennis balls

Pressureless tennis ball has no inner pressure (gas) in the tennis ball. Because the ball is not filled with gas, it has a longer lifespan than the gas-filled tennis ball. Because of its hard core, the pressureless tennis ball is ideal for training sessions. The pressureless tennis ball is further often used by novice tennis players, or by tennis players who find playing time more important than playing comfort.

Unlike inflated balls, they retain their resilience longer, making them more durable. These balls have no air in their core and are made of sturdy rubber with a tightly woven felt layer. They perform well in different weather conditions and retain their bounce properties. They require no maintenance such as inflating air. Pressureless tennis balls are available in different brands.

Stage tennis balls

Stage tennis ball is filled with microcells that are filled with air. This air cannot escape from the ball, which means the ball will always remain the same hardness. Stage balls are relatively soft and meant for beginning tennis players and children. They are ideal for these groups because stage balls have less bounce. This gives children and novice tennis players more time to react to and hit the ball. We differentiate between the following stage balls:

Red tennis balls

The red tennis balls are also called stage 3 tennis balls. These tennis balls are suitable for training the very young (up to 8 years). This is because the ball is made of sponge/foam. This ensures that the tennis ball does not bounce high, making it easier for children to hit the ball.

Orange tennis balls

Orange tennis balls are also called stage 2 tennis balls. This tennis ball has the characteristics of a pressureless tennis ball, but has a lower pressure in the core. This makes the ball bounce less high than a pressureless ball. This allows a child or beginning tennis player more time to be able to hit the ball back. The orange tennis balls are designed for children ages 8 to 10.

Green tennis balls

The green tennis ball is also called a stage 1 ball. This tennis ball has the traditional features of a pressureless tennis ball, but a slightly lower pressure in the core. As a result, the ball bounces slightly less high. This tennis ball is perfect for the youthful tennis player who is already fairly well on their way, but still has steps to make before being able to move to the pressureless. This tennis ball is intended for children aged 10 to 12 years and beginning tennis players.
